“We clearly recognize the importance of establishing a comprehensive, enterprise-wide Information Governance program, as one key issue of our Excellence System. Our information governance program mitigates risk related to the exponential growth of electronic information flows and unstructured information in a global context for our group.“ said Head of document and record management.

“As a first step we plan a project for the entire company to set up records management governance by the end of 2011 based on version 2.2 of RSD GLASS available in June 2011. Toward this goal, RSD GLASS will be used in three areas: design documents, supply chain documents and physical records.” said SAE Project Manager.

During this first phase of their project, the customer will use RSD GLASS in three major areas in order to:

  1. centralize information governance policy creation and management;
  2. provide complete archiving services and lifecycle management for car design records and supply chain records;
  3. manage within the same solution the accessioning of physical records to off-site or internal storage.

Future phases include the application of the solution to other records within the group, such as Legal and HR documents.

The customer operates in one of the world’s most heavily regulated industries. The volume of documents and information relating to car and service design, manufacture, distribution, and financing is measured in the tens of millions per year and require complex, structured and cross-referenced file plans that reflect model years and engine models. Also the information in question takes the form of unstructured documents as well as highly structured data in engineering and design centric applications.

“When it comes to information governance, the customer operates in an extremely demanding sector. As an industry leader, they require a platform which can handle high volume, manage a sophisticated records classification plan, apply it across multiple jurisdictions, and address the requirements of a lifecycle which can extend to many decades,” said Pierre Van Beneden, RSD CEO. “As we learned through the evaluation process, few can meet these requirements. We are extremely proud that RSD GLASS met the challenge and look forward to continuing our long standing relationship with our customer”.

Current records management and enterprise information management solutions address the information governance challenge “from the bottom up” by hard-wiring their policy and enforcement capabilities to proprietary repositories.  RSD GLASS takes a top down approach: central policy management, federated enforcement, and repository agnosticism.

No industry solution available today, including those evaluated by customer during their selection process, offers these three essential breakthroughs.
